Pupils at Hartford Junior School in Huntingdon were proud to walk/travel down to the local war memorial in the town’s market square, as part of their history lessons.
The Year 5 and 6 pupils at Hartford Junior School, which is part of The Cam Academy Trust, thoroughly enjoyed finding out all about the Thinking Soldier war memorial.
Located in the market square in Huntingdon, the memorial is a life-sized statue of a World War 1 soldier.
The Thinking Soldier was unveiled on Armistice Day 2023 and commemorates both World Wars and post-1945 conflicts.
The Hartford pupils learnt about how the memorial serves as a focal point for remembrance and reflection on the sacrifices made by local individuals in various conflicts.
Rae Lee, Headteacher at Hartford Junior School, said: “Our Year 5s and 6s behaved impeccably during our visit to the Thinking Soldier memorial in the centre of Huntingdon and we were very proud of them.
“The children were very interested in the history of the Thinking Soldier in the heart of our town and it has helped them to understand more about the sacrifices made during conflicts like the World Wars.
“At Hartford Junior School, we are committed to making sure that every child is inspired in their learning and trips like this are an important way of bringing subjects and learning to life.”
