Pupils at Hartford Infant and Preschool School and Hartford Junior School in Huntingdon are delighted with a new sandpit in the grounds of their school.
The new sandpit at Hartford, which is part of The Cam Academy Trust will be a new focal point for the children.
The school is immensely grateful to teaching assistant Mrs Moira Whitham and her family who have given up their time and expertise to install the sandpit. Moira is a dedicated Play Leader and oversees the day to day running of OPAL which includes supervising the children
The sandpit is part of Hartford’s ongoing commitment to the Outdoor Learning and Play (OPAL) scheme, a programme which seeks to improve the quality of outdoor play in schools.
The school says that taking part in OPAL has greatly boosted the children’s outdoor play, as well as their social skills.
Rae Lee, Headteacher at Hartford Infant and Preschool and Hartford Junior School, said: “Our new sandpit will be a special feature for the children as they develop and learn through outdoor play.
“At Hartford Junior School, we believe in bringing out the best in everyone so that our children can be curious, confident learners who can communicate effectively.
“Outdoor play is a crucial part of this and we are very grateful to Moira Whitham and her family who have made this outdoor play project possible.”
