Ofsted visited us in September 2024 and found –
A school community characterised by warmth, respect and a strong sense of purpose. They noted that the school is a calm, welcoming place where pupils feel happy, safe and ready to learn. Relationships between pupils and adults are positive, and pupils show genuine enthusiasm for their lessons.
Inspectors highlighted how confidently pupils live out the school’s golden rules, showing gentleness and honesty, good manners and kindness towards others. They were particularly impressed by the way pupils take on leadership roles, such as serving on the school and eco councils, which helps them understand democracy and develop valuable communication skills for the future.
The report recognised the school’s high aspirations for every pupil. Staff work hard to broaden pupils’ horizons, offering rich learning experiences—from developing a deep understanding of French language and culture to learning how to stay safe online. Pupils benefit from well‑planned activities that help them learn and remember the curriculum, as well as a wide range of breaktime opportunities that support healthy lifestyles and positive risk‑taking.
Behaviour across the school was described as typically good. When pupils find things difficult, staff provide calm, effective support, ensuring that every child knows there is someone they can talk to if they feel worried.
Inspectors praised the ambition and strength of the curriculum. Teachers are well trained and knowledgeable, particularly in reading and mathematics, where most pupils make strong progress. Early readers receive targeted support to help them catch up, and pupils develop a genuine love of reading through exposure to high‑quality texts. Strong subject knowledge across the wider curriculum means pupils achieve well in many areas.
Pupils were found to have secure understanding across subjects—recalling scientific concepts, multiplication facts, musical terminology and key historical events with confidence. Staff also identify the needs of pupils with SEND quickly and accurately. Individual support plans are used effectively so that pupils with SEND achieve well. While assessment is strong overall, Ofsted noted that in a small number of cases, it could be refined further to ensure all pupils access the right level of challenge.
The school’s behaviour policy is applied consistently, helping pupils understand expectations clearly. Leaders’ work to reduce suspensions has had a positive impact, and pupils returning from suspension are well supported. Attendance is a high priority, with staff working closely with families where support is needed.
Personal development was identified as a real strength. Pupils enjoy opportunities such as singing in the choir, performing in the community, meeting visitors—including a local magistrate—and taking part in trips and residentials that broaden their experiences. They also contribute to charitable causes, helping them grow into responsible, thoughtful citizens.
Finally, Ofsted recognised the school’s commitment to staff well‑being. Staff feel supported by senior leaders, and the trust provides both challenge and guidance to ensure strong governance and continued improvement.
