Admissions are managed by the Cambridgeshire Admissions Team in line with local authority policy.
- Children start school in the September of the year they turn five.
- Applications open in October and close in early January.
- Priority is given to children living in our catchment area.
- Our PAN for Hartford Junior School in September 2026 will remain at 60.
All applications must be submitted through the Cambridgeshire Admissions Department. A link to the application form is here.
Once your child has been offered a place by the local authority, the school will be in touch with you directly.
If applications exceed available places, the local authority will allocate places based on published criteria.
We hope that Hartford Junior School is your first choice and would love to welcome your child into our school in September.
If you would like a tour of the school to see our classrooms and facilities and to meet some of the staff, please contact the school, we will do our best to facilitate a convenient time.
If your child was born between 1.9.2021 and 31.8.2022 and are due to start primary school in September 2026, applications can be made via the admissions website. More information is available on how to apply and the admissions guide is on their website.
Parents will need to put requests for accelerated or deferred admission in writing to the Local Authority. For more information please click here to go to the relevant page on the county council website.
Parents can appeal if a place is refused. If two applications meet the criteria equally, priority is given to the child living closest to the school, measured in a straight line. If you need to appeal, click here
Children who have an Educational Health Care Plan [EHCP] that names the school will be admitted. Information for new starters can be found in First Steps booklet which can be accessed here.
Thereafter priority is as follows:
- Children in Care (CIC) and children who were previously in care (CIC) but ceased to be so by reason of adoption, a residence order (now known as a child arrangement order) or special guardianship order.
- Children who appear to the Admission Authority to have been in state care (i.e. in the care of or accommodated by a public authority, religious organisation or any other provider whose sole/main purpose is to benefit society) outside of England but ceased to be so because of being adopted only.
- Children living in the catchment area with a sibling at the school (or partner junior school) at the time of admission.
- Other children living in the catchment area.
- Children who live outside the catchment area who have a sibling at the school (or partner junior school) at the time of admission.
- Children who live outside the catchment area, but nearest the school as measured by a straight line.

That being said, if you are looking to send your child to our school you can ‘express an interest’ using the linked form and we will contact you as soon as the admission window for the appropriate academic year has opened.
You can enter your postcode to determine if we are your catchment school using the following link: http://my.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/. If your address is not listed you are not a Cambridgeshire resident and should apply to your home Local Authority.
